Reduce PDF file size
Make an image-based copy of a PDF when a smaller attachment matters more than editable or searchable content. Compression runs in your browser by rendering pages as lower-quality JPEG images. It is lossy: selectable text, vectors and interactive features do not survive.
Image-based optimization at reduced resolution. Text search, forms, links and digital signatures are lost. A smaller result is not guaranteed.
When this tool helps
- Prepare a smaller viewing copy of an image-heavy handout.
- Reduce a non-interactive attachment while keeping the original separately for reuse.
Questions and practical limits
Will compression preserve searchable text?
No. The result contains page images rather than the original text and vectors. Use the original whenever search, accessibility or form interaction is important.
Why did the tool reject the compressed result?
Raster compression cannot make every document smaller. If the generated file is larger than the source, the tool rejects that output rather than offering it as a reduction.
